Initial Thoughts
My goal with this assignment was to talk about a different perspective of the lesbian experience. It is a unique and complicated experience both perceived inside and out. Many people have some ideas of what it is to be a lesbian when it is not a strict one-way experience in terms of gender identity. It is especially different for those who are black or brown, nonbinary, or intersects with other various identities. I wanted to introduce different or unique perspectives and poke fun that stereotypes are just that, not a defining part of the experience.
Layout Sketches
In my sketches I tried playing with quotes, color, format, and decorations on the page to center it around typography. My feedback was that I did not have enough pages to completely print front and back. With my revisions I added a typographic poster that still connects to the magazine.
Magazine Style
The style I was aiming for was bold and colorful. I chose BD Supper because it was artsy and stood out. I thought my statement of exploring different gender experiences as a lesbian would change other people's definitions of what a lesbian can look like. I wanted my statement to stand out therefore, I chose a font that stands out as well. Effra CC Black helped for subheadings since BD Supper got harder to read in smaller sizes and Basic Gothic Pro was a body text that fit in with the theme. My color palette was made up from the colors of the lesbian flag.

Reflection
This was a fun project for me as I am a nonbinary lesbian. Gender has always been a subject in my life that is complicated especially with my sexual orientation. I wanted to maybe break the idea that lesbians are women or expectations of being woman and how it affects many lesbian's gender experience. In the research side of it, it was a great experience to looking into different perspectives of the lesbian experience especially in different subjects of the culture in different races or its history. I hope to create more projects that are personal to me.
